  • A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for the family of La Crosse librarian Medora Nelson-Ferris, who died on October 8 from injuries in a hit-and-run crash on September 26 at King Street and 16th Street South when 18-year-old David Resto was charged for failing to stop at a sign—community members now honor her memory with a memorial at the site while the library sets a program for October 20 to help children process their grief.  News8000

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Passenger numbers through La Crosse airport have grown ahead of last year’s pace with over 33,000 travelers in the first nine months compared to about 29,000 during the same period. However — May recorded over 4,400 passengers, the highest monthly total since Delta ended regular service two years ago, while September saw a 4% drop to 3,600, ending a streak of four consecutive months with more than 4,000 travelers.  WIZM
  • Xcel Energy said Wisconsin residential customers will see a 15% rise in their monthly natural gas bills from $112.08 to $128.72 compared to last winter—8% of the increase comes from higher natural gas costs and 7% comes from growing infrastructure expenses, and customers can access rebates and energy-assistance programs for help.  WEAU
