COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The library board is reviewing proposals to close its north side branch — a decision that will be announced after further review.  News8000
  • Collectors and pop culture fans gathered at the La Crosse Center today for the Midwest Collect-Quest Card Show where more than 100 vendor tables displayed trading cards and collectibles for sale and trade—families enjoyed free admission and saw well-known voice actors among the crowds.  News8000
  • The second annual Pet Expo La Crosse is set for Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Omni Center in Onalaska. Adoption and rescue groups + over 50 vendors along with a cat show, food trucks and a kid’s area will educate locals and raise funds for animal rescue organizations + support responsible pet adoption.  WIZM
  • A local venue will show 'Beyond the Bridge'—a film on a housing plan meant to explain potential changes in local housing options. Officials have not yet shared details on the screening time and location.  News8000
  • A Wisconsin farmer won a giant pumpkin contest on Oct 14 by growing the heaviest pumpkin at a local event & breaking previous records.  News8000

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Oct. 10, 2025, Wisconsin Farmers Union president Darin Von Ruden said in a WIZM studio interview that federal cuts—and tariffs—had squeezed local growers, prompting the state to provide $10 million for farm-to-community programs after farmers had already purchased crops and livestock. He also explained that rising produce prices and the decline of small family farms further intensified challenges for Wisconsin growers.  WIZM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Trempealeau Elementary spent the day outside for International Outdoor Classroom Day and enjoyed a new hammock garden—30 hammocks that offer a space for reading, writing, and simple relaxation. Principal Melanie Bawek said the school will use the garden throughout the year to support outdoor learning.  WIProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the State Patrol urge drivers to be alert as deer cross roads more often during the fall rut — officials noted that 2024 saw over 17,000 deer-related crashes that killed nine and injured 707, reminding motorists to drive slowly and keep their eyes on the road. They advise drivers to use headlights as light fades and stay buckled up to lessen the risk of injury in a crash.  WEAU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emplify Health by Gundersen is bringing a mobile mammography unit to local businesses such as Kwik Trip in La Crosse to offer breast cancer screenings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The unit will provide mammograms to about 40 employees over two days and will continue visiting businesses through the month.  WEAU
