COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rotary Clubs near La Crosse held their second annual fundraiser titled Pickleball for Polio at Blue Zone on the North Side last Thursday night—supporting Rotary International's drive to end polio by raising funds through tournaments and raffles.  News8000
  • La Crosse Public Library will close early Monday from 4—7 p.m. to hold a drop-in celebration of life for Medora Nelson-Ferris, a children’s librarian who died last month in a hit-and-run crash; regular hours resume Tuesday.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • Storyteller Terry Visger—chair of the La Crosse Storytelling Festival—will perform tomorrow at Pump House Regional Arts Center for the 23rd Annual Tales of the Creepy and Scary, an event for audiences 13 and older. She shared a brief excerpt from her new tale today at WIZM after drawing on her 25 years of experience.  WIZM
  • University of Wisconsin-La Crosse hosted its annual free Art Open House on Oct. 23rd—community members visited to enjoy artwork from students and faculty.  News8000
  • The Rivoli Arts District is hosting the Uncanny Exhibit that features 13 themed rooms created by 25 local artists to capture the Halloween spirit. Teddy Eck said guests can interact with the displays — tickets cost $15 for general admission and $10 for students — as the exhibit encourages hands-on exploration.  News8000
  • The Nature Place in Myrick Park will host its fourth annual Music in the Marsh on November 13 with Grammy Award-winning Dom Flemons set to perform while doors open at 6 p.m. Director Rebecca Schwarz previewed the event on October 23 during La Crosse Talk and discussed how federal funding cuts have made planning more challenging — organizers expect tickets to sell out quickly.  WIZM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Logan High School and North Woods Elementary joined for a story walk that displayed pages from Shel Silverstein’s 'The Giving Tree' while high school mentors helped younger readers build confidence; this 10-year program has added over 800 reading hours each year.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials are reviewing a Riverside Festival plan that proposes a public market area and hundreds of new housing units near the river by redeveloping the southside festgrounds — the proposal will be discussed by the city plan commission on November 3 and by a council committee on November 4.  WIZM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Officials broke ground on the C&C Residences housing project in La Crosse that will bring 36 residential units including 24 studio apartments and 12 townhomes. The project features a community garden and a focus on sustainability; construction will continue through winter with an opening scheduled for spring 2026.  News8000

  • Nick Trim widened his lead at the Mercury B.A.S.S. Nation Championship after catching a 21-pound fish on Day 1 at the Upper Mississippi River tournament presented by Lowrance—his strong start boosts his chances for the upcoming rounds.  La Crosse Tribune
