COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents stocked little food pantries on Oct 27, 2025—but details on the reasons for the move have not been confirmed by local sources.  News8000
  • City officials said repaving work is underway at parts of the Forest Hills parking lot and visitors may face delays entering or exiting the recreation facility—although the golf course and trails remain open. Officials have not released details about which sections are being resurfaced or when the work will finish—further updates are expected.  News8000

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Solar on La Crosse Schools finished its final project by installing 276 solar panels on Southern Bluffs Elementary’s roof and celebrated years of volunteer work that brought cleaner, cheaper energy to schools—community donors and grant funds helped the project save $75,000 in electricity costs. The school district has taken over future solar projects and will add arrays to its new elementary and State Road addition.  WIProud

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Saturday, a steady stream of residents brought various medications—including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and pet medications—to Drug Take Back Day in La Crosse to reduce access and provide public education, according to health educator Laura Runchey. The health department and sheriff’s office collected the items, which were later sent to a secure site for safe destruction.  WIZM

  • On Saturday, Nick Trim of Galesville won the BASS Nation Championship in La Crosse by catching 77 pounds over four days and finishing four pounds ahead of second-place finisher Noah Winslow. His win amid fog delays earned him a trophy, a $50,000 check — a spot in the Elite Series and entry in next year’s Bassmaster Classic.  WIZM
  • Monday night's charity basketball game at Aquinas High School had the La Crosse Does, a team of women over 50, and local priests use special rules that require oven mitts + no running. The match raised funds for Casa Hogar, an orphanage in Peru.  News8000
