- ➤ La Crosse community leaders, including Assembly Reps Tara Johnson and Jill Billings, donated grocery bags of food at WAFER Food Pantry on Thursday—warning that cuts to Food Share assistance could leave more than 250,000 children at risk if the government shutdown continues. WIZM
- ➤ La Crosse’s Warming Center opens today at 413 South 3rd Street to offer daily dinners and breakfasts from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. through May 1—adding a breakfast meal and morning programs such as 12 step meetings, mobile medical, bible study and counseling to support an expected rise in guests. WIZM
- ➤ La Crosse’s Catholic Charities Warming Center opens today to offer a safe and warm space for residents during the cold season and to provide support services as temperatures drop. News8000
- ➤ Students at Western Technical College are running a Pack the Pantry drive — they are collecting non-perishable items at the Welcome Center — to help food insecure students on campus. The drive runs through November 7. News8000
- ➤ Hidden Trail Corn Maze in West Salem—one of the area’s longest-running Halloween traditions—wraps up its seasonal fun today with an 80s-themed design offering four maze routes and fall activities, operating from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. while children under 4 enter free and those 5 and up pay $14. - ➤ Bangor School District staff members shaved their heads Friday—showing support for a teacher battling cancer. News8000
- ➤ Students at Spence Elementary held a fun run to celebrate Halloween and raised over $10,000 for school programs. The funds will pay for field trips, classroom supplies, and other activities—making the event a yearly highlight for the school. News8000
- ➤ Brittney Steine was named Teacher of the Year on Oct 31—local educators praised her dedication—and the award honors her commitment to teaching. News8000

- ➤ A black bear was captured on a Ring camera early Wednesday morning around 3:30 a.m. — Wisconsin DNR experts said the animal traveled 35 miles north since its sighting on October 21 as it searches for a winter den and advise residents to keep a safe distance if encountered. News8000
