COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nonprofit CouleeCap in La Crosse received over $750,000 in federal HUD funding to expand its selective housing program for people who have been homeless for a long time—helping them get safe housing and care. The program, which assisted 48 unsheltered individuals in the past year, will use the money for rental help, deposits and staffing.  WIProud
  • Gundersen by Emplify Health collected nearly 2,000 pounds of food during a nine-day drive that ended Nov 7—supporting local families in need.  News8000

  • The local jewelry scene is changing as Slice Jewelry & Gold will open on November 29—Howes Diamond Jewelers closed, changing retail options in the community.  La Crosse Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The La Crosse Education Association launched a food drive today at Logan High School—donated food will support a school pantry serving students and families.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The La Crosse Police Department is partnering with the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office and Human Services Department to have 17 officers and jailers take a 40-hour crisis intervention training—designed to improve their skills in handling mental health crises with hands-on practice and live scenario exercises.  WIProud
  • Fire officials in La Crosse advise residents to inspect their space heaters, furnaces, and fireplaces as temperatures drop and risks rise; they recommend regular checks and testing of smoke detectors (with battery changes twice a year) to help prevent fires.  News8000
  • La Crosse's regional airport warned that flight delays may occur due to a government shutdown that led the FAA to reduce operations at key hubs + travelers are advised to check with their airline for the latest updates.  News8000

  • Bull rider Cody Nance, bull rider Matt Palmer and rodeo clown Nick Kaup appeared in studio on November 7 as they prepared for the Professional Championship Bull Riders event at the La Crosse Center—an event that began Friday and continues tonight—with bull riding and barrel racing and free cowboy hats for the first 300 kids each night.  WIZM
