- ➤ Great Rivers United Way is set to take over the region's 211 crisis call center service after Gundersen Health System said it will stop managing the service at the end of the year — the call center has helped people for 20 years, and United Way will work with local nonprofits to keep the resource up to date. - ➤ University of Wisconsin-La Crosse hosted its 13th annual Freedom Honor Flight Veterans Day breakfast on Tuesday at the fieldhouse where student athletes served free breakfast to honor local veterans and their families. - ➤ Kathleen Graham from Downtown Mainstreet Inc. is hyping today's Downtown Holiday Open House in La Crosse, which starts at the Cathedral (4 p.m.) and runs until 8 p.m., with festive activities (a tree lighting at the Grounded patio at 6 p.m.) planned to boost holiday spirit in the downtown area. - ➤ Great Rivers United Way awarded $350,000 in basic needs grants to 26 local charities on Wednesday in Onalaska—funds that support food, shelter, and safety programs. The grants range from $5000 to $40,000—four organizations received these funds for the first time. WIZM
- ➤ The Salvation Army held its annual Giving Tree Season on Nov 13 allowing local residents to donate gifts for families in need (organizers noted the event supported community holiday giving). News8000

- ➤ Pat Stephens stepped down as president of IrishFest after 20 years of leading the celebration—Kelley Bahr, with 20 years of board experience, will now guide the festival while Stephens remains active with community projects like Freedom Honor Flight and Rotary Lights. The leadership change comes as the event prepares for its upcoming annual celebration. WIZM
- ➤ A bronze statue of Betsy Thunder was installed Thursday at Riverside Park’s International Friendship Gardens in the Ho-Chunk area to honor the 19th-century medicine woman who healed both native peoples and settlers in the 1860s. The statue (about 400 pounds) is part of a $300,000 project, and the garden will be dedicated by next spring overlooking the Mississippi, La Crosse and Black rivers. WIZM
- ➤ Viterbo Fine Arts Center director Dillon McArdle warned that since this summer the center has seen a 600% increase in speculative ticketing—resellers sell tickets they do not hold and charge much more than the set price. - ➤ On Nov. 13, Chad Wilkinson, the director of Central High School’s planetarium, spoiled the dinosaurs’ ending on La Crosse Talk and hyped upcoming shows that are selling out fast—tickets for Dec. 12 events are still available while January’s will soon be posted online. The upgraded planetarium will be the only one in town after UW-La Crosse loses its facility next semester. WIZM

- ➤ The La Crosse Library Board voted 6-2 Tuesday night to close the North Branch Library after holding community feedback sessions—board members said the decision will help manage a $175,000 funding gap.
