- ➤ Onalaska High School teacher Bridgett Hubbard had her students make quilts for a local shelter and write gratitude letters for staff as part of a day of Service in her Principles of Leadership class. Hubbard, who has taught for over 30 years, said her classroom projects help build community connections — showing that learning goes beyond academics. WIProud
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A proposed 2026 budget cuts all funding for the Ecosystems Mission Area, which may lead to the closure of the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center in La Crosse—86 employees work at the center and it is one of 17 facilities set for decommissioning as some research, like invasive carp studies, may move under another mission area. - ➤ Thousands of hunters will head into the woods this weekend to join the annual deer season and are urged to pack first aid kits for any injuries. Megan Anderson from Emplify Health advises hunters to plan ahead and take breaks on tree stands — as falls are a common risk. WIZM

- ➤ The UW La Crosse Recreational Sports Department hosted its 30th annual UWL Turkey Trot 5K on Saturday near the UWL Recreational Eagle Center — the event featured a 5K run/walk, a Junior Gobbler Gallop, and wood-engraved medals for top finishers with proceeds supporting student development and community wellness.
